As a puppy raiser, you provide a loving home and essential training to a future service dog, laying the foundation for its success. This includes house-training, teaching basic obedience, and most importantly, exposing the puppy to a wide variety of social settings—such as grocery stores, public transportation, places of worship, community events, and interactions with different people and animals. Your guidance helps build confidence, resilience, and good manners in the dog. Puppy raisers commit to caring for the dog for approximately 12 to 18 months before it returns to Golden Healer Service Dogs for its advanced service training. Throughout this journey, you’ll receive support, training resources, and guidance from our expert team. By opening your home and heart, you are directly contributing to changing someone’s life by preparing a dog for its vital role as a service companion.
